Shannon's Column: Rules for being human

Several years ago, when I was still muddling through the darker days in my recovery, a friend gave me a wonderful little printout with the title "Rules for being human". The writer was not named.

I was intrigued enough to read rule number one...and as it turned out, that one rule gave me so much to contemplate that it was several years before I actually remembered to read the rest of them.

Rule #1: "You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this time around."

What do you think about that?....for full article click HERE

Jeanette's Column: The Power of Affirmations
by Jeanette H.

Stuart Smalley is a character on Saturday Night Live that is known for saying "I'm good enough,I'm Smart Enough, and Doggone it, People Like Me!"

For years people would tell me that I should read affirmations daily and that I should come up with some of my own.

I had watched the Saturday Night Live skit and knew about Stuart Smalley and so as a joke I started telling my therapist this was my affirmation. She would tell me I need to come up with additional affirmations.

However, I did not believe in them.I thought they were nothing more than lies.I did not believe I had any value or worth and I thought I was doomed to struggle.....for full article click HERE

Andrea's Column: Recovery IS Possible
by Andrea Roe

Earlier this month, my husband and I were at a friend's wedding in the interior of BC, Canada (and it is gorgeous there!!) I did not know anyone there, except for my friend, who is actually more my husband's friend. BUT, I was looking forward to our trip and the wedding celebration.

During my eating disorder struggles, an event like this would have stressed me out w-e-e-k-s in advance. I would have restricted my food intake to make sure I fit into my tiniest clothes and "look good." I would have.....for full article click HERE

Lynn's Column: The Garden of Delight
by Lynn Gerhard

One of my favorite Psalms contains the line "delight yourself in the Lord, and He will grant you your heart's desires."Today, it is a line I resonate with deeply, and am coming to understand more fully as each day passes.

When I first began my journey into this brand-new, constantly evolving place we call recovery, I did not understand anything about delight, much less about delighting in myself.I was of the opposite mindset: utter disgust with my "bad" choices (had I not been informed of these all my life). And when it came to attempting to repair the inner damage....for full article click HERE

Tapestry Residential Treatment Center

What makes Tapestry unique from other treatment centers?

Our goal at Tapestry Residential Eating Disorder Program is unique. Our goal and mission is to provide a recovery program which fosters client identity with true self and an authentic connection to others, in a real world environment.A real world environment means that in treatment we address issues that clients struggle with when they are" out of treatment, in the real world," while they are in a safe and nurturing environment. We support facing challenges such as cooking and food preparation, going to the grocery store with a planned list, and going out to meals. We encourage paying attention to relationship; with oneself and others in a new way, welcoming challenges within those dynamics to be explored within the community of Tapestry residents and with family and loved ones who visit. In a Real World Treatment environment strengths and skills are developed that apply to every day life; clients learn how to truly care for themselves so they can live more freely in the world.....to read entire article, click HERE
