Good News For Eating Disorders Recovery! Relationships Replace Eating Disorders
|
Volume XXVI
|
|
Welcome to this month's Good News! Happy February! What a great month to make progress in our own recovery, and support others who are trying to heal as well!
This month, wherever we are for Eating Disorders Awareness Week,
we can share our stories, help someone who is hurting, and do our part
to bring us all one step closer to a world FREE from eating disorders.
How exciting!
I am traveling quite a bit this month speaking and attending conferences (please join me if you are nearby), as are several of our Good News columnists. We might even be in your area!
This month, we announce the winner of last month's Beating Ana book giveaway, and open up the contest once more for another lucky winner!
Also, we will once again hear from our wonderful columnists, but we also have a surprise GUEST in author Ron Saxen, who shares about what it has meant to him to write his inspiring book The Good Eater. With all this and much more, you won't want to miss a word!
Warmly and with HOPE,
Shannon

eating disorder. I want to experience life. There is so much more. But
this is just the beginning of why I want to BEAT my eating disorder. -NicoleNicole, your book is on its way to you this week!

Shannon's Column: The "Me" In All This
So far this month, I have given the first "Beating Ana" radio interview, launched the "Beating Ana" Gurze blog,
planned for speaking on five different campuses in as many days for
NEDA week, written and edited several editorials about mentoring,
created MentorCONNECT brochures, held several planning meetings for the Ana Launch Party in Houston....and done precious little else.....for full article click HERE

Andrea's Column: Recovery IS Possible
by Andrea Roe
"I was told I would always have my eating disorder... "
Recently, I was invited to share my story with an eating disorder
support group... Now that I am recovered, it is my passion to spread
the word of recovery and give others hope and support with sharing my
story. One of the girls of the support group said that years ago her therapist
told her that she would always have her eating disorder. She was told
that she would never be able to get rid of it....for full article click HERE

Lynn's Column: The Song of Life
by Lynn Gerhard
I've been through the mill this past
month. But as I have been working my way
into a more positive and grateful place (always the best action for a life that
appears to be falling apart at the seams), my heart has been steadily developing
a story I would like to share this month instead of the usual 12 Step
article. I hope it sings to your heart
and reminds you of how beautiful you are just being you.
There was once a man who had had great
adventures in his life, but had also been aged....for full article click HERE

by Robin Richardson

When
I was a little girl, I loved horses. I started riding when I was
five and must have owned about 20 of those beautiful Breyer plastic
horses. They were my "Barbies" and I named them and created imaginary
lives and families for each one. When I was nine years old, several
girls accidentally started a barn fire in a huge, beautiful barn

Make A Difference in Your Community! Be a Part of the Eating Disorders Awareness "Beating Ana" Big Book Donation Drive
Fighting eating disorders begins with awareness, continues with activism, and resolves into REAL supportive relationships that replace the need for the relationship we have formed with our eating disorder. Just a few days ago, we hosted a pre-NEDA week "Beating Ana" Book Donation Party in my hometown of Houston, TX. Attendees purchased copies of Beating Ana, and chose a local school or non-profit organization that they wanted to donate the book to.
We donated 45 books in one evening! Now, to lend our support for Eating Disorders Awareness Week activities worldwide, we invite you to JOIN IN! Over 1,500 people receive this e-newletter each month. If each of us donate just ONE BOOK to a local school, church, or non-profit, we could reach almost 1 million people with a message of HOPE over the next MONTH. Each
donation book is $18 ($14.95 + $3.00 shipping). All you have to do is
contribute $18, tell us where you want your donated book to be sent,
and we will do the rest! Click HERE or on the daisy above to participate!

Highly Recommended Book: The Good Eater by Ron Saxen
An Interview with Ron
Q. When did you know that you were ready to share your story through writing The Good Eater?
A. Strangely enough, it was the moments of guilt
after I'd recovered that propelled me to write. You see, back when it
all began going terribly wrong for me in 1982, there wasn't much out
there (especially for men). I personally knew absolutely nothing about
eating disorders and I was left to believe that I was a party of one,
someone uniquely screwed up. After pondering my shame over and over,
the best I could come up with was "First, I must never tell a soul.
Second, on my own I must somehow summon the strength to control my
moral defect." With those lasting memories permanently etched, I
realized I had a responsibility to stand up for others....for full interview click HERE
