The help a mentor can add to the support team

Q. Please share about your mentor and how exactly she helped point you in the right direction.

A. Hi - this is a great question that I cover extensively in my book on the subject, "Beating Ana: How to Outsmart Your Eating Disorder and Take Your Life Back" (follow the link to read an excerpt from the book).

I met my first mentor at a time in my life when I was really struggling and she was strong in an area of life where I felt very weak. She reached out to me and encouraged me to open up to her, and through that partnership I began to allow her to guide me and offer insights into how to tackle challenges I was facing. Mentoring is a true partnership - the mentor must be able and willing to offer insights from their own key learnings, and the mentee must be open to receiving guidance and trying it on for size.

MentorCONNECT, our global eating disorders mentoring community, facilitates mentoring partnerships all over the world for mentors and mentees who are seeking to have an experience of mentorship for mutual growth and connection.
